LEXINGTON, Va. -- For the 20th time since 1997-98, the Christopher Newport University Department of Athletics has captured the College Division All-Sports Survey title championed by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) recognizing the highest overall winning percentage in the state of Virginia among all non-NCAA Division I programs. The Captains registered an impressive 72.3 percent winning mark in 2024-25 with an overall combined win-loss record of 233-87-7.
Logging an overall winning percentage over 72 percent for a fourth consecutive year, the Captains edged out second place Washington and Lee University by just .013 percentage points to capture the title in 2024-25. The Generals took second place with an overall mark of 228-91-7 (.710) while Bryant & Stratton (.682), Randolph-Macon College (.661), and the Newport News Apprentice School (.629) rounded out the top five.
Christopher Newport captured conference championships in six sports and qualified for NCAA postseason competition in 10 sports during the 2024-25 season. Highlighting the overall success was a Division III Final Four appearance for the Christopher Newport women's soccer program while both the field hockey and men's lacrosse teams reached the NCAA National Quarterfinal round.
The Captains finished with a top-50 effort in the Learfield Directors Cup and also earned a sweep of the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Richard C. Cook All-Sports Trophy. During the year, the CNU women's programs combined to go 145-41-2 (.777) while the men's teams managed an 88-46-5 (.651) overall record.
VaSID names 44 all-state teams in 23 spors each year, as well as an Academic All-State squad and an all-sports champion in both the University and College Divisions. Membership in VaSID is open to all media relations professionals working at a University or Conference in the state of Virginia.
