NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. -- For their work both on and off the field,
Maelyn Eversole,
Maggie Lockard, and
Alexa Romero were named to the IWLCA National Academic Honor Roll, while the entire Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team was celebrated for its scholarly endeavors by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association on Wednesday afternoon.
Leading the way, Eversole earned the national accolade for the second straight year. Meanwhile, Lockard and Romero were both recognized for the first time.
In order to receive a spot on the Academic Honor Roll, student-athletes must be either a junior, senior, or graduate student with a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher.
Along with the individual honorees, the entire team was selected as an Academic Honor Squad for the ninth time since 2016. That distinction is reserved for programs that achieved at least a 3.2 team GPA during the academic year.
Hauling in awards during a standout senior season, Eversole earned All-Conference, All-State, and All-Region accolades while leading the Captains with 52 points in 2025. One of only two players in the league with at least 20 goals and 20 assists during the spring, she recorded at least one point in 17 games and produced nine multi-goal eruptions. Honored with a spot on the prestigious Academic All-District Team, the political science major concluded her four-year stint with 86 total points in 69 appearances.
Punctuating her collegiate career, Lockard wrapped up her tenure by appearing in seven games during the 2025 campaign. Stepping up under the bright lights, she deposited the final goal in a top-five tilt against No. 2 Tufts on March 23 and also earned a starting assignment in a nationally-ranked duel with No. 9 Washington and Lee on April 26. Overall, the psychology major made 22 appearances during her career, including an outing in the NCAA Tournament as a sophomore.
A versatile contributor during her four years at CNU, Romero saw time as a defender while also making several key contributions on the draw control unit. As a senior, she collected a pair of draws during a top-25 showdown with No. 21 Denison on March 29 before adding two more in the league playoffs, including a clutch snag in the championship bout at No. 7 Salisbury on May 3. During her time in Newport News, the finance major took part in 17 games and was a four-time Academic All-Conference honoree.
Along with Christopher Newport's impressive work in the classroom, the Captains advanced to the league championship for the fifth straight season while climbing as high as 15th in the IWLCA National Coaches Poll.
