NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport University hasn't played away from home in almost a month, but Friday the second-ranked Captains have a road softball doubleheader with the 14th-ranked team in the nation, Randolph-Macon College. The twin bill is scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m. at Carol Estes Park in Ashland, Va.

Keith Parr's squad has won 13 straight games and has a record of 25-1. The Captains completed a 14-game home stand on Wednesday with a doubleheader sweep over North Carolina Wesleyan University. The Captains won the opener, 7-1, and then posted a 10-1 triumph in the nightcap. Randolph-Macon has a record of 22-2 on the year, and the Yellow Jackets are riding a 16-game winning streak R-MC last played on Sunday, sweeping a doubleheader at Guilford College.

CNU's only loss this season came at the hands of the top-ranked team in the nation, East Texas Baptist, at Captains Park on March 14th. Randolph-Macon's two losses came in early-season games against Meredith on March 2nd and North Carolina Wesleyan on March 8th. The Yellow Jackets are 10-0 at home so far in 2025.

Sophomore centerfielder Candace Slaw continues to lead the country in hits (53) and runs (43). Slaw has the fifth-highest batting average in the nation, .616. Fifth-year senior Brooke Greaver has taken over the lead in runs batted in in the country with 44. Greaver has also hit nine home runs this season, tied for fifth in the national stats.

The Captains and Yellow Jackets have played 30 times in the past, and Christopher Newport holds a 22-8 lead in the all-time series. CNU has won the last three, most recently in March of 2023 at Captains Park, 10-2. This will be the first time Christopher Newport has traveled to Ashland since the 2019 season. 

The doubleheader against the Yellow Jackets will begin a stretch of six straight road games for CNU. The Captains will also travel to Salem, Va., on Sunday for a twin bill at Roanoke College this weekend.
