NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport University will play its final regular-season home games on Sunday afternoon, when the third-ranked Captains entertain the Eagles of the University of Mary Washington. The doubleheader is set to begin at 12 noon at Captains Park.
It will be Senior Day, and prior to the opening game, 11 members of the CNU squad will be recognized for their contributions to the program. Pre-game senior ceremonies will begin at approximately 11:45 a.m. The Captains are 30-4 and are ranked third in the country again this week.
Keith Parr's squad is 20-2 at home so far this season. The Eagles of Mary Washington, meanwhile, have a record of 11-27 heading into the twin bill.
Christopher Newport is coming off a split at Roanoke College on Wednesday. CNU won the opening game, 11-0 in six innings, but fell in the nightcap, 4-2. Mary Washington is 11-27, and the Eagles are coming off a split at Messiah on Wednesday in Grantham, Pa.
Sophomore
Candace Slaw is currently third in the nation in runs (53), sixth in batting average (.561), and 19th in on base percentage  (.570). Fifth-year senior
Brooke Greaver is third in runs batted in with 54, tied for tenth in home runs with 12, and 14th in slugging percentage (.914). Senior pitcher
Jamie Martin is 13th in strikeouts with 128, and senior pitcher
Kate Alger is tied for 18th in victories with a 14-2 record.
The Captains and Eagles have played 73 times in the all-time series, and CNU holds a 62-11 edge. Christopher Newport has won the last eight games, and 12 of the last 13. Last season in Fredericksburg, CNU won by scores of 5-1 and 8-1 over UMW. The series dates back to March of 1989.

Following Sunday's action,
Keith Parr's squad is scheduled to conclude the regular season next Saturday, May 3rd, when they travel to Maryland to take on Salisbury University. The Top 10 clash will begin at 2:00 p.m. as the Captains and Sea Gulls renew their long-running rivalry with a doubleheader at Margie Knight Stadium. Christopher Newport will then play in the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Tournament on Friday, May 9th, at a time and location to be determined.
