NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Some of the nation's top softball teams will be competing in the Cross Bay Bash beginning Friday morning at Captains Park on the Christopher Newport University campus. Four teams currently ranked in the Top 25 will be taking part, and a total of eight games will be played over three days at CNU's home field.
The Captains, ranked seventh in the country currently, will play Friday afternoon against the top team in the country, East Texas Baptist University. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
Keith Parr's squad is 12-0 while the Tigers are 15-1 to start the year. East Texas Baptist will take on 16th-ranked Pfeiffer University (11-3) Friday morning in the first game of the day beginning at 9:30 a.m. CNU will also play Friday afternoon at 5:00 p.m. vs. George Fox University. The second game of the day Friday will feature Pfeiffer vs. George Fox at 12 noon.
Saturday's schedule has the Captains playing Pfeiffer at 12 noon, followed by a 2:30 p.m. game vs. 22nd-ranked Moravian University (7-1). The action will conclude on Sunday as CNU will play George Fox twice, with games at 1:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. The Cross Bay Bash is co-hosted by Virginia Wesleyan University, and the Marlins will also host games at their facility in Virginia Beach over the weekend.
