CNU Softball Hosts Randolph Wednesday at Captains Park; Martin and Greaver Receive Conference Honors

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport University softball hosts Randolph College on Wednesday at Captains Park as CNU opens its home schedule. The doubleheader is set to begin at 3:00 p.m. Keith Parr's team is 2-0 to start the new season after sweeping a twin bill on Sunday at Ferrum College by scores of 7-1 and 4-0. Randolph will enter play on Wednesday afternoon with an 0-2 record to start the season. 

Christopher Newport received the first weekly softball honors handed out Monday by the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference. Jamie Martin was named the Pitcher of the Week by the C2C, and Brooke Greaver was chosen the Player of the Week.

Martin, a senior lefthander from Lorton, Va., did now allow a hit through the first four innings of the opener on Sunday. She ended up throwing five scoreless innings to earn her first victory of the year, striking out nine and yielding just two base hits.

Greaver, a fifth-year senior from Abingdon, Md.,crushed a pair of two-run home runs in the opener, and then brought home two more runs in the nightcap with a couple of sacrifice flies. Greaver drove in six of CNU's 11 runs scored in the doubleheader, and has now hit 28 career home runs, sixth all-time in CNU softball history.  

CNU and Randolph have played 11 games in the all-time series heading into Wednesday's twin bill. The Captains have won all previous 11 games, most recently a sweep in Lynchburg in March of 2022 by scores of 8-7 and 15-1.
