NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Christopher Newport sophomore
Sarah Pritz was named the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday after helping lead Christopher Newport to a pair of road victories last week. Pritz is the second straight selection for the Captains after
Madison McKenzie earned the honor on November 24.
The 19th-ranked CNU women's basketball team traveled to Averett University and earned an 83-37 win on the road before capturing a 64-49 victory at previously-unbeaten Shenandoah University on Sunday.
In the first game of the week, the Captains jumped out to a big lead against the Cougars with Pritz taking charge in the first quarter. In a three-minute burst, Pritz checked into the ball game, buried a three-pointer on the first possession, knocked down a jumper on the next possession, and added two free-throws for seven quick points. Powered by the sophomore forward, CNU took a 15-5 lead and never relinquished the double-digit advantage.
Pritz finished with nine points and seven rebounds against Averett while going 3-for-4 from the field in just ten minutes of action. Then, against Shenandoah, Pritz led the Captains in scoring with 15 points while adding seven rebounds against the Hornets. She scored 10 of her 15 points in the first half as CNU built up a 36-21 lead on the road.
For the week, Pritz shot 50 percent (8-16) from the field including 50 percent from beyond the arc with a pair of triples. She averaged 12.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 2.0 steals per game this week.
Christopher Newport will return to action on Tuesday night as they host Marymount University in the 2025-26 home opener. Tip against the Saints is set for 6:00 p.m.
