Captains Ranked 7th Following NJAC Clinching Win over Salisbury; Highest Ranking Ever

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The 2025 Christopher Newport University football season has included numerous new program records and accomplishments. Following an exciting 45-42 victory over Salisbury University Saturday night at TowneBank Stadium, the Captains have moved up to 7th in the nation in the new poll released Sunday by D3football.com. The ranking is the highest ever in the 25-year history of the program.

Paul Crowley's squad, 9-0 overall and 6-0 in the NJAC, has already matched the program mark for wins in a season with nine, and the Captains Saturday became the highest-scoring team in program history, having scored more than 40 points in every game except the opener, a 38-7 triumph over Trine University. Saturday's victory clinched the New Jersey Athletic Conference title, and the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament that comes with it.

The Captains, who were ranked 13th last week in the D3football.com poll,  had their highest previous national ranking at 11th during the 2003 campaign, which marked the first year of the D3football.com poll. Christopher Newport is now one of just six undefeated teams in the nation. CNU has now won 14 straight games dating back to last year when the Captains won their final five games to conclude the season.

Christopher Newport will conclude the regular season Friday night at the College of New Jersey in Ewing, N.J. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. as the Captains attempt to complete their first undefeated regular season in the 25-year history of the program. TCNJ is 6-3 overall and 3-3 in the NJAC following a 30-27 loss to Montclair State on Saturday.
