SANTA CRUZ, Calif. -- Throughout the history of the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference, which goes back to 1991 when it was the Capital Athletic, no one has been named Player of the Year three consecutive seasons in volleyball. Until now.
For an unprecedented third consecutive season, CNU's
Alyssa Dozier was named C2C Player of the Year in a voting of the league's head coaches. While making history, Dozier also joins league legend Ronda Jo Miller from Gallaudet as the only three-time Player of the Year after the Bison Hall of Famer accomplished the feat in 1996, 1997, and 1999. Like Miller, Dozier was also named the conference rookie of the year in her first season, making them the most decorated players in league history.
Dozier was also named Defensive Player of the Year and Scholar-Athlete of the Year. She was joined on the first team by fellow Captains
Maddie Hanes,
Samantha Dorn and
Fielding Croft. Croft, a freshman setter from Richmond, was named C2C Rookie of the Year.
Dozier, a senior middle blocker from Arlington, is the only player in the conference either first or second in kills per set (3.47), blocks per set (1.18) and hitting percentage (.387). In the CNU record book, she is among the top six all-time in kills, points, blocks and attack percentage.
Hanes, a junior libero from Chesapeake, leads the C2C in digs with 359 (3.63 per set). She is tied with Croft for the team lead in most sets played (99).
Dorn, a junior outside hitter from Alexandria, is fifth in the conference in hitting percentage (.258) and seventh in kills per set (2.55). Croft is second in the Coast-To-Coast in assists per set (8.89).
The Captains (22-7) are the No. 2 seed in the C2C Championship and will go against No. 3 and tournament host UC Santa Cruz (10-15) Friday at 4:30 p.m. (EST). CNU is No. 22 in the latest NPI rankings.
