Over a thousand Division III student-athletes earned the esteemed recognition in 2025 including the two CNU playmakers. Dozier, a two-time first team Academic All-American, made history as the first three-time Academic All-District selection in program history while Hanly earned the honor for the first time as a sophomore and becomes the seventh CNU volleyball player to earn Academic All-District honors.
Nominees must be at least a sophomore with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or above while being a starter or important reserve on the field of play. Nominees must have participated in 90 percent of games played or started two-thirds of the total contests in 2025.
Dozier continues to stockpile individual accolades at the conclusion of one of the most storied careers in Christopher Newport Athletics history. After earning first team All-America plaudits from the AVCA, Dozier adds the prestigious academic honor to her ledger on Tuesday. She was the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Scholar Athlete of the Year in addition to being named the league's Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year in 2025. Additionally, she was named the AVCA Region Player of the Year after leading the 18th-ranked Captains to the NCAA Regional Championship Game to close out a standout senior season.
The middle blocker from Arlington, Va. had a record-shattering career as the focal point of the CNU offense and defense over the last four years. She became the all-time leader in blocks with 490 rejections at the net including ranking second all-time in solo terminations with 167. Dozier also finished her tenure ranking fourth in career kills (1,368) and fourth in attack percentage (.324) after one of the most dominant single-seasons in program history. Her 2025 campaign featured the most kills in a season since 2012 and ranks in the top-ten all-time at CNU while she became just the third player in program history to hit over .400 for a single season (.402).
In the classroom, Dozier sports a near-perfect GPA as a double major at Christopher Newport University. She is studying toward degrees in History and Political Science.
Joining her teammate as an Academic All-District pick was
Avery Hanly, an outside hitter from Virginia Beach. She joins an exclusive list that includes Paula Hockster (1989), Josie Lucernoni (2017, 2018), Anna Dean (2022), Rebecca Frey (2022),
Macy Burk (2023),
Megan James (2024), and Dozier (2023, 2024, 2025) as the only Academic All-District picks in program history.
Hanly was a vital piece of the Captains' rotation in 2025 and participated in all 34 matches this season. She ranked third on the team in total sets played with 115 out of a possible 116 and logged 130 kills while ranking second on the squad in digs with 259. Hanly was also among the team leaders in aces (44) and blocks (34) as she put together a well-rounded performance for CNU in her second year. Off the court, Hanly is a double major with a focus on Environmental Science and Political Science while also working toward a minor in Leadership Studies.
The Captains reached the NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championship for the 18th consecutive season after capturing the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Championship in 2025. CNU closed out the year ranked No. 18 nationally with an overall record of 26-8 for the highest team winning percentage since 2018.
