Undefeated Captains Move Up to 14th in New National Football Poll from D3football.com

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport University moved up one spot this week in the new national football poll released Sunday by D3football.com. Paul Crowley's Captains are now slotted in the 14th spot in the country following a 52-7 road victory Saturday at William Paterson University in Wayne, N.J.

Saturday's win improved the Captains to 7-0 for the first time in the 25-year history of the program, and 4-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference, tied with Salisbury University for the top spot. CNU is now one of just eight undefeated schools in the nation in Division III, and has won a dozen straight games dating back to last season when the Captains won their final five.

The new ranking is the highest for CNU since the first week of the 2007 season when the Captains were slotted 12th in the country following a victory over tenth-ranked Rowan. Christopher Newport's highest national ranking ever was 11th during the 2003 campaign, which was the first year of the D3football.com poll.

Christopher Newport returns to TowneBank Stadium this Saturday, November 1st, to host the Red Hawks of Montclair State University. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m., The game will be a part of the 25th anniversary celebration of the CNU football program. The Hawks are 3-4 overall and 2-2 in league play.

The complete new poll through games of Saturday, Oct. 25th.
