Captains Move Up to 17th in New Weekly Football Poll from D3football.com

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Following its first 5-0 start in program history, the Christopher Newport University football squad moved up to 17th in the new weekly ranking from D3football.com. The Captains defeated Vermont State-Castleton on Saturday, 69-7, and have now won ten straight games dating back to last season.

Paul Crowley's team was slotted 21st in the country last week in the poll. The new ranking is the highest for CNU since the first week of the 2007 season when the Captains were 12th in the nation following a victory over tenth-ranked Rowan. Christopher Newport's highest national ranking was 11th during the 2003 campaign, which was the first year of the D3football.com poll.

The 25th season of Christopher Newport football will continue Saturday at TowneBank Stadium when CNU hosts Kean University. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m., and will be part of Homecoming and Hall of Fame Weekend. The Cougars are 1-4 overall and 0-2 in New Jersey Athletic Conference play, and have dropped four straight games.
