Edvard Porsmyr Hansen Leads CNU on First Day of ITA Southeast Regional Championships

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- After the field was forced to adjust to a shorter format due to heavy rainfall in the Fredericksburg area, the Captains put together an impressive overall performance in doubles while Edvard Porsmyr Hansen led the way in singles for CNU men's tennis on the first day of the ITA Southeast Regional Championships.

A pair of doubles teams advanced to the Championship Draw Round of 16 and Porsmyr Hansen is still alive in both the singles and doubles draws.

In the morning, Porsmyr Hansen paired up with Ashton Legum for a win in the Round of 32 against Salisbury's Aron Bursztyn and Mitch Desman, 8-1. They will advance to take on Trevor Rein and John Riordan from Mary Washington on Saturday morning. Also earning a win in the Round of 32 were Vincent Truong and Nesh Kumaresan, teaming up to take down Chakor Sankaran Rajendra and Zahari Stoimenov from Johns Hopkins. Truong and Kumaresan earned the win by a narrow margin with a score of 8-7 (5).

In singles play, Porsmyr Hansen led the way with two wins in the Championship Draw. He defeated Ursinus' Deniz Finkel, 8-1, and then toppled #9-seeded Brock Ladehoff from Mary Washington, 8-2. He will attempt to advance to the quarterfinals with a Noon match against #5-seed Max Lindstrom from Swarthmore on Saturday.
