Box Score NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Christopher Newport men's tennis team concluded a successful weekend at the CNU Invitational after a perfect day on Sunday. The Captains won both of their doubles matchups on day two and went 3-1 in singles, with the lone loss coming in an All-CNU affair.
In doubles action, the Captains earned a pair of wins against Averett and Virginia Wesleyan.
Ahun Vodela and
Alex Seretis paired up for an 8-3 win against Jaeden Mukkaladyil and Kazuki Fukushima out of Averett University and
Rainer Christiansen played with
Gabe Smith for an 8-1 win against Sebastien Muller and Hovhannes Madanyan from Virginia Wesleyan.
In singles, Christiansen and Smith squared off in a battle that CNU couldn't lose. The two went back-and-forth before Christiansen edged out his freshman teammate by a final score of 6-7 (4), 6-4, 1-0 (10).
Seretis and
Sam Halvorsen also secured wins for CNU during Sunday's finale. Seretis beat Sihoo Kim (Washington (Md.)), 6-3, 6-4, and Halvorsen outlasted Mitchell Desman (SalisburY), 6-4, 7-5.
CNU also participated in the UTR Sports College Circuits on Sunday as four CNU players appeared in the Back Draw. The Captains had a strong day, winning three of the four matchups. The biggest win came from
Vincent Truong, who defeated a player from Division I William & Mary, Alexander Karman, by a score of 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (5).
Nesh Kumaresan also won in a third-set tiebreaker, defeating Vedant Bhende in a come-from-behind effort, 6-7 (0), 6-2, 1-0 (2).
Edvard Porsmyr Hansen downed his opponent, Lucas Beasley, in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.
The Captains will return to action next weekend at the ITA Southeast Regionals.
