FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Making history as the first team to ever supplant the perennial power Mary Washington as the top seed in the conference tournament, the nationally-ranked Christopher Newport women's tennis team will open play in the 2024 Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Championships in Saturday's semifinal round at 2:00 p.m. CNU's opponent is to be determined after Friday's quarterfinals in which #4 Salisbury will take on #5 Pratt for the right to face the Captains on day two.

The Captains ended the Eagles run of 17 straight regular season crowns since the inception of the conference tournament in 2006 and becomes the first team other than Mary Washington to ever garner the top seed in the postseason event. Mary Washington earned the #2 seed and will host #3 UC Santa Cruz in Saturday's other semifinal round, also played at 2:00 p.m.

The two winning teams in the semifinal round will then advance to the 2024 C2C Championship at 2:00 pm on Sunday, May 5. CNU and Mary Washington have both advanced to the title round in eight straight seasons.

All matches will be held at the Battleground Outdoor Complex in Fredericksburg, Va., hosted by the University of Mary Washington. Live video and live stats will be available at match time and links can be found on the women's tennis schedule at CNUsports.com.

This season, CNU is 11-5 overall and has been ranked higher than ever before in the ITA Division III National Rankings. Led by C2C Coach of the Year David Weiner, CNU snagged four major awards and seven All-Conference certificates after a vote of the league's head coaches earlier this week. Headlining the record-breaking haul of postseason accolades is junior Raine Weis earning Player of the Year and Doubles Team of the Year honors with partner Tessa Trate. Trate was also named the Scholar-Athlete of the Year to round out the major award selections.

On Wednesday, the Captains were ranked No. 20 in the nation while Trate and Weis are ranked No. 14 in the doubles rankings. In the Atlantic Regional Rankings, CNU was ranked No. 5 as a team while Weis is tabbed No. 15 in singles and No. 4 in doubles, with Trate. The duo has piled up 41 career wins together including 32 at No. 1 doubles in dual action.

Pratt and Salisbury will determine who the Captains face in the semifinal round. CNU has never faced Pratt and owns a 19-10 advantage in the all-time series against the Sea Gulls.
