FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- After earning the #2 seed in the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Championships, the nationally-ranked Christopher Newport men's tennis team will open postseason play in the semifinal round on Saturday, May 4 at 10:00 a.m. against #3 seed UC Santa Cruz (10-9). The Captains (12-6) earned the team's highest seed in the C2C Championship since 2018.
The semifinal matchup against the Banana Slugs will be the second time the two teams have faced off in the C2C Tournament after pairing off in the 2022 version of the postseason event. The Captains won that outing, 5-4, and advanced to the 2022 conference championship. Since, CNU and UC Santa Cruz have met twice more and split the matchups as Christopher Newport took a 2-1 advantage in the all-time series. First, CNU earned a 5-4 win on a neutral court against the Banana Slugs last Spring and then, this year, UC Santa Cruz repaid the win by the same score, 5-4, on CNU's annual trip to California.
In the other semifinal matchup, top-seeded Mary Washington will face off against either #4 Salisbury or #5 Pratt, who will play in the quarterfinals on Friday. The two winning teams will then advance to the 2024 C2C Championship at 10:00 am on Sunday, May 5.
All matches will be held at the Battleground Outdoor Complex in Fredericksburg, Va., hosted by the University of Mary Washington. Live video and live stats will be available at match time and links can be found on the men's tennis schedule at CNUsports.com.
