NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Capping off a stellar career on and off the tennis courts for Christopher Newport, senior
Vincent Truong was named an Academic All-District selection by the College Sports Communicators (CSC) for a third consecutive season this week. Truong becomes just the third CNU men's tennis player to garner the recognition three times in his career.
The CSC announced the 2025-26 Academic All-District selections on Tuesday afternoon with Truong meeting the standard for recognition in spades. The prestigious award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The award requires a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or higher for those student-athletes with an academic standing of sophomore or higher while serving as a starter or significant reserve competing in at least 75 percent of total matches with a team score.
Truong joins former doubles partner
Ashton Legum and teammate
Edvard Porsmyr Hansen as the only CNU players in program history to earn three Academic All-District certificates for CNU men's tennis. He joins an elite list that includes just over a dozen for Captains in all sports to accomplish the feat.
Sporting a near-perfect GPA while majoring in Computer Engineering, Truong was as accomplished in the classroom as he was while leading the nationally-ranked CNU men's tennis program over the course of his career. One of the most decorated CNU players of all-time, Truong was recognized as an All-Conference player in singles and doubles in each of his final three seasons and is a seven-time All-Conference player.
Truong concluded his career with 47 wins in singles play and 57 doubles victories, ranking fifth all-time at CNU. While playing on the top line throughout his career, Truong was recognized as the 2023 C2C Rookie of the Year, the 2024 C2C Player of the Year, and part of the 2025 C2C Doubles Team of the Year.
