SALISBURY, Md. --
Playing on the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history, the 21st-ranked Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team will continue its postseason appearance on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. when the Captains battle No. 7 Washington and Lee at Salisbury's Sea Gull Stadium.

Entering the third-round tilt, CNU sits at 14-6 on the season, while W&L is 17-3.

Tickets for Saturday's game will be $7 for adults, $5 for senior citizens, and $3 for students and children. Meanwhile, for those fans unable to attend the contest, Salisbury will provide live stats and a video stream of the action at SUSeaGulls.com. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the schedule page.

Christopher Newport advanced to the third round of the playoffs after knocking off Catholic, 9-6, during a comeback thriller on May 12 at Jennings Family Stadium. Trailing by two early in the third quarter, the Captains ripped off four straight goals before sinking two more at the end of the fourth frame to wrap up the triumph.

Syd Guidi led the victors with four points, including her 13th hat-trick of the year. She also landed a back-breaking man-down bullet in the 56th minute to help lock up the win. That was her second shorthanded strike of the season, becoming just the fourth Captain to record two in a single campaign.

On the defensive side, Christopher Newport forced 15 turnovers against the Cardinals, including four takeaways by Brookelyn Morrison. Gabby Saia also had three strips, while Kate Lamendola added a pair. Additionally, Hadley Chadwick matched her season-high with 10 saves, including her 200th career stop.

Excelling on the defensive end throughout the year, CNU is averaging 10.95 takeaways-per-contest, which is the second-highest rate in program history. On an individual level, Morrison has already established a new school standard with 53 caused turnovers, while Julia Iapicca is fourth on the single-season charts with 36.

Equally historic, Emma Jackson enters Saturday with 89 career takeaways, which is tied with former legend Emily Johnson for the most in program lore.

Offensively, Kelsey Winters has already broken her own single-season program record with 69 assists. That total also ranks fourth on the NCAA charts. Meanwhile, her 272 career helpers are the second-most in Division III history, just three shy of matching Emily Bruner's all-time mark of 275, which she set at Rhodes from 2019-23.

Winters also comes into Saturday with an assist in 20 consecutive games. That stands as the longest streak in program history.

In addition to Winters, Guidi leads the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference with 61 goals, which also places her sixth in program history. Meanwhile, Iapicca's 59 tallies are the seventh-most by a Captain.

Washington and Lee enters the weekend on a 16-game winning streak after defeating Rhodes, 17-7, in the second round of the NCAA Tournament last Sunday. Against the Lynx, Alex Petras led the Generals with seven points, including four goals. Eugenie Rovegno also chipped in with 10 draw controls, while Walker McKnight had four takeaways.

So far this season, W&L is allowing just 6.70 goals per game, which ranks fourth in the NCAA. The squad is also 10th in clearing percentage (.894) and 12th in draw percentage (.623). On an individual level, Caroline Kranich is seventh in the country with a 7.65 goals-against-average, while Hanna Bishop leads the squad with 53 goals and 35 assists.

Saturday's battle will be a rematch of the season opener, which saw the Captains post a 12-10 win in Lexington. During that tilt, Iapicca contributed four goals, while Winters added two strikes and a pair of assists. Washington and Lee was led by Julia Thomson, who netted a hat-trick.

The winner of Saturday's contest will advance to the Regional Finals on Sunday for a battle against the survivor of a third-round match-up between No. 5 Salisbury and No. 15 Babson.
