CNU Cheer and Dance to Host National Championship Showcase at Freeman Center This Weekend

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Christopher Newport varsity cheerleading and CNU Storm Dance teams are hosting a joint national championship preview this weekend at the Freeman Center, set for 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 7. The Showcase will feature performances from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. as the Captains prepare for the Cheer and Dance College Nationals. 

Fans are encouraged to wear blue as they fill the Freeman Center in support of the Captains spirit squads. Admission is free to the public. 

The CNU Storm Dance Team, led by head coach Taylor Macina, will be featuring a nationals exhibition for the 2024 NDA Nationals in Daytona, Fla. The CNU Cheerleading Squad, led by head coach Erica Flanigan, will perform a showcase for the 2024 NCA Nationals, also in Daytona. 

The national championship event will be held from April 11-13 and tickets are available with daily passes or a three-day pass good for Thursday-Saturday competition. All tickets must be purchased online. CNU Cheerleading will compete against 18 other teams entered in the Intermediate All-Girl Division III grouping with the Captains performance set for 7:00 p.m. on Thursday in the Ocean Center Arena. Just minutes after the cheerleaders finish, the CNU Storm Dance team will perform at 7:06 in the Ocean Center Ballroom. The Storm will compete in the Team Performance Division III, featuring six programs from around the country. 

For fans attending the Showcase at the Freeman Center, doors will open thirty minutes prior to performances at 3:30 p.m.
