Weekend Schedule for CNU Softball Reconfigured; Fifth-Ranked Captains Hosting Games Friday and Sunday

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Due to a soggy weather forecast, the Christopher Newport University softball schedule has changed dramatically for the weekend. The fifth-ranked Captains will now host doubleheaders on Friday and Sunday at Captains Park instead of traveling to North Carolina for a weekend tournament.

Keith Parr's team will host Elmira College (NY) on Friday, with the first game of the twin bill scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start. Sunday, the Captains will host Marymount University for a doubleheader that is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.

The Captains are 7-1 to start the season, and moved up to fifth this week in the new National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) poll after being ranked eighth in the pre-season poll from the organization. CNU won three of four games played last weekend in the NFCA's Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Ga. The final victory came on Sunday over defending National Champion Trine University, 4-3. Trine remains the top team in the nation in the new poll.

Elmira College has not played a game yet this season, following a 20-19 campaign last year. Marymount is already 4-5-1 to open the season, and the Saints have four games on their schedule, two Thursday and two Friday, before Sunday's double dip at Captains Park.
