NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --
Capping off a five-game homestand, the 18th-ranked Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team will host Meredith in a non-conference contest at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Jennings Family Stadium.

Entering the weekend, Christopher Newport sits at 7-2 on the season, including 5-1 at home. Meanwhile, Meredith is 4-3 with a 1-1 mark on the road.

For those fans unable to attend the game, live stats and a video stream of the action will be available at CNUsports.com. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the schedule page.

Christopher Newport is coming off of a commanding 20-8 triumph over St. Mary's (Md.) on Wednesday. Against the Seahawks, the Captains jumped out to an early lead and never trailed during the lopsided win. Kelsey Winters led the victors with seven points, including three assists. She also landed the first two blows of the game to help CNU grab an insurmountable advantage.

With her next assist, Winters will tie former North Carolina legend Katie Hoeg for the 10th-most in the history of collegiate lacrosse. Hoeg had 233 helpers during her All-American career with the Tar Heels from 2017-21.

Along with Winters, Julia Iapicca netted five goals against St. Mary's, while Syd Guidi had four. Brookelyn Morrison also contributed five points and 11 draws controls, which equaled the 10th-highest total in program history. The second-year star also collected her 100th career draw, becoming the 16th Captain to reach that milestone.

Defensively, Christopher Newport had 19 caused turnovers during the win over the Seahawks. That equaled the fifth-highest total in program history. Among the individual standouts, Emma Jackson had four takeaways, while Winters and Morrison chipped in with three apiece. Iapicca, Guidi, Madi Rozgonyi, and Carys May also had two each.

Overall this season, the Captains are averaging 12.67 takeaways-per-contest, which ranks in the top-50 nationally. The squad is also 11th in clearing percentage (.909) and 23rd in scoring defense (7.89 goals-against-average).

Meredith is coming off of its most impressive victory of the season after opening USA South action with a 23-0 win over Greensboro. Against the Pride, 11 different players scored at least once, including four strikes apiece by Arianna May and Allison June Mabe. Freshman Kenzie Todd also had seven points, including five assists.

So far this season, Todd leads the Avenging Angels with 28 points, while May ranks second with 25. Incidentally, May is the older sister of CNU's Carys May. A two-time All-Conference performer, she has 161 career points, including 113 goals. Meanwhile, on the back end, Madeline Horrell has a .412 save percentage and 11.62 goals-against-average this year during her time between the pipes.

In six previous meetings between the two programs, Christopher Newport holds a 5-1 edge in the series. Last year, the Captains notched a 15-2 win in Raleigh. During that contest, Winters had a game-high nine points, while Morrison and Iapicca also added hat-tricks.

After the lengthy homestand, CNU will hit the road on March 27 for a 4 p.m. battle at No. 14 York (Pa.).
