ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. -- The Christopher Newport sailing team captured an 11th place finish at the St. Mary's Women's Inter-Conference this weekend. The Captains captured a sixth place finish in B division as
Laura Smith and
Ellie McFall finished with 102 total points.
As a team, the Captains compiled 240 points led by the B division effort. In A division, CNU totaled 138 points and finished 11th.
Grace Watlington and
Gail Schneider paired up in the A division boat for CNU.
The College of Charleston won the event with 132 total points, beating out Tulane by 16 points for the title.
The best race of the weekend for the Captains came in A division during the sixth race overall. Watlington and Schneider outpaced the rest of the fleet and picked up the win. They would follow up that performance with a second-place showing in the next race and wrapped up the event with six top-ten showings.
In B division, Smith and McFall finished with 11 top-ten efforts and finished strong with an 8-3-2-5 finish over the final four races. The second-place showing in the second-to-last race was the best of the weekend while the Captains pairing added six total top-five finishes.
Christopher Newport will return to action next weekend as they host the Hanbury Trophy.
