WINCHESTER, Va. -- The 14th-ranked Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team will hit the road on Saturday at 1 p.m. when the Captains travel to Shenandoah for a non-conference tilt at Aikens Stadium.

Christopher Newport is coming off of a 14-9 victory over Randolph-Macon on Wednesday at Jennings Family Stadium. Playing the latter portion of the game through a deluge, the Captains overcame the elements while marching to their third straight victory.
During the battle,
Syd Guidi and
Julia Iapicca both reached 100 career goals, becoming the 19th and 20th players in school history to achieve that milestone. Iapicca eventually finished the contest with eight total points, including five strikes, while Guidi deposited a pair of first-quarter tallies.
Along with Guidi and Iapicca,
Brookelyn Morrison made some history of her own. The sophomore star recorded seven takeaways, which equaled the third-most by a Captain in program history. Her seven ground balls also equaled the 10th-highest total in school lore.
In addition to Morrison,
Carys May had two strips on the back end, while
Madi Rozgonyi,
Maddie Rusinko, and
Blake Hopkins all caused one turnover apiece.
So far this season, Christopher Newport is averaging 11 takeaways per game. Morrison leads the conference with nine caused turnovers, while Iapicca and
Emma Jackson also slot in the top-10. On the other side of the field, Iapicca ranks first in the league with 15 goals and 18 points, while
Kelsey Winters boasts a conference-high seven assists.
Winters also connected on her 34th career free-position goal against Randolph-Macon, moving past CNU Hall of Famers Meghan Harkey and Ashton Marshall for the third-most by a player in program history.
Shenandoah is coming off of an exciting 9-8 victory over No. 15 Messiah last Saturday. Knotted at eight entering the fourth quarter, Amy Bell netted the game-winning goal in the 48th minute before the defense took care of the rest, including late takeaways by Emily Kravalis and Julianna Fohner
The Hornets have been exceptional on the draw this year, controlling 71 percent of their total attempts. That ranks 15th in the NCAA. Ainsley Buckner leads the team with nine draw controls and nine points. On the back end, Jordan Higgins ranks in the top-25 nationally with a .550 save percentage and 6.53 goals-against-average.
In 25 previous meetings between the two programs, CNU holds a 20-5 edge in the series. However, Shenandoah has won the last two match-ups, including a 13-9 triumph last year in Newport News. During that game, Guidi collected a hat-trick for the Captains, while Emily Lerch had three strikes for the Hornets.
After this weekend, Christopher Newport will remain on the road when the squad travels to Clearwater, Florida for a neutral-site battle with No. 15 St. John Fisher on March 5 at 11 a.m.
