NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport University will have a busy weekend in Columbus, Georgia, as the eighth-ranked Captains play six games in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Leadoff Classic. CNU is 4-0 to start the season, and
Keith Parr's squad is scheduled to play two games each day Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, weather permitting.
The Captains will play Wartburg College on Friday afternoon, with first pitch set for 3:30 p.m. Later in the day, CNU is scheduled to face Berry College in a 5:30 p.m. start.
On Saturday, Christopher Newport is set to take on East Texas Baptist College in a 10:00 a.m. start. The Captains play a second game immediately following at 12:00 p.m. against Illinois Wesleyan University.
Sunday's schedule currently has the Captains playing the College of St. Benedict at 1:30 p.m., followed by a matchup with last year's National Champions, Trine University, at 3:30 p.m.
Christopher Newport has opened the new season with doubleheader sweeps over Ferrum College and Averett University.
