CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Sailing in an easterly wind that provided enough for 10 races on Saturday and eight more on Sunday, the Christopher Newport women's sailing team finished fourth out of nine teams at the College of Charleston Women's Fall.
CNU scored 306 poins to finish behind Rollins (292 pts), Jacksonville (208 pts), and the host College of Charleston (147 pts). Both A and B division sailors competed in a single fleet with Christopher Newport finishing 7th and 8th out of the 18 boats.
The B division tandem of
Laura Smith and
Gabby Byrne wrapped up the event with 150 points and a seventh place showing. The A division boat, sailed by
Grace Watlington and
Gail Schneider, finished tied for eighth with 156 poins and took the higher position with a head-to-head tiebreaker.
The Captains finished with one bullet as a team, as the A division pair sailed across the finish line first in the 11th race. It was part of an impressive stretch of four straight top-three finishes for Watlington and Schneider. The B division group had a consistent overall eprformance with two third-place finishes to highlight their weekend.

NORFOLK, Va. -- The Captains finished fifth out of nine teams competing at the Oyster Bowl Regatta hosted by Old Dominion this week. CNU finished with 302 points to edge out the host Monarchs by ten points for a top-five finish.
Both A and B division sailors competed in a single fleet with Christopher Newport's A division boat finishing sixth with 131 poins and the B division sailors capturing a 13th place finish with 171 points.
Josh Bendura and Jonathan Matney paired up in A division while
Aston Atherton and Berend van Der Meer were in the same boat for B division sailing. Bendura and Matney finished strong with only one finish outside of the top ten in the final ten races. That run included a second place finish in the 11th race of the weekend.
