CNU Men's Soccer Travels to Salisbury University for Saturday Afternoon Match Against the Sea Gulls

SALISBURY, Md. -- Hitting the road for the fourth time in the last five games, the Christopher Newport men's soccer team will travel to Salisbury University (5-6-2) for a 3:00 p.m. matchup against the Sea Gulls. The Captains are 5-4-3 overall this season heading into the weekend trip up the Eastern Shore.

The game represents the penultimate road game of the regular season for Christopher Newport and will also be the last home game of the regular season for Salisbury. Live stats and a live video webcast will be available with links on the schedule page at CNUsports.com.

Christopher Newport and Salisbury have faced off 45 times prior to this Saturday's matchup and the all-time series is deadlocked at 20-20-5. CNU has won seven of the last eight, but the Sea Gulls captured a 1-0 win last season in the most recent bout between the two conference rivals.

After an eight-game unbeaten streak to start the season, the CNU men's soccer team has endured a four-game skid. The Captains are coming off a 1-0 setback at No. 1 Mary Washington last Saturday in which they outshot the home team, 16-12.

Sophomore Manzi Siibo leads the offense with nine points on four goals and one assist while senior midfielder Jason LaViola leads the team in assists with five helpers. LaViola ranks second on the team with seven points including one goal, a gamewinner against Rutgers-Camden. Four defenders have started all 12 games this season as juniors Caleb Jones and Asher Kuzemka are joined by sophomore Yazan Yaghmmour and rookie Declan Karney. In goal, Hayden Dewey has started all 12 games and has 24 saves in over 1,052 minutes played.

Salisbury has a pair of high-quality results this season including a 3-1 win over then No. 3 Messiah and a draw against No. 22 Johns Hopkins. Statistically similar to the Captains, the Sea Gulls have surrendered 18 goals this season for a 1.38 goals-against average. Offensively, Salisbury has scored 19 goals while being led by Brady Young with 10 points. Three Sea Gulls players have scored three goals this season as Young is joined by Gavin Miller and Liam Pierce.

The Captains will hit the road to take on Lynchburg at 7:00 p.m. next Saturday, October 26.
