NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --
The Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team will look to continue its winning ways on Wednesday at 5 p.m. when the Captains host Lynchburg in a non-conference tilt at Jennings Family Stadium.

Entering the contest, Christopher Newport sits at 3-5 on the season, including 2-5 at home. Meanwhile, Lynchburg is 2-5 overall and 0-2 on the road.

For those fans unable to attend the game, live stats and a video stream of the action will be available at CNUsports.com. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the schedule page.

The Captains are coming off of a 16-7 victory over Denison on Sunday. Against the Big Red, Christopher Newport scored the game's final 13 goals while completing an epic comeback. Especially dominant during the last two quarters, the squad posted 10 tallies and kept the opposition scoreless in the second half.

Overall, the 10-0 advantage during the final 30 minutes equaled the most lopsided second half in a decade, matching the squad's performance against N.C. Wesleyan on April 3, 2013.

On the offensive side, Julia Iapicca recorded four goals and established a new career-high with seven draw controls. Incredibly, all seven of her draws came during a nine-minute window in the second half that saw the Captains score seven unanswered goals while grabbing control of the contest.

Meanwhile, on the other end of the field, Maddie Rusinko was named the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week after collecting four takeaways and four ground balls. Her four caused turnovers equaled her season-high, while her four rollers matched the most of her career.

Along with Rusinko, Hadley Chadwick was a standout between the pipes. The freshman goalie made six saves, including five on eight-meter attempts. Her five free-position stops marked the most by a Captain since former legend Becca Creekmore stoned six against Shenandoah on February 15, 2020.

Aided by her work on Sunday, Chadwick now ranks second in the league with a 9.24 goals-against-average. Among other top performers in the conference, Kelsey Winters leads the league with 22 assists and slots third with 34 points. Meanwhile, Iapicca is third in goals (20). On the defensive side, Emma Jackson is second in caused turnovers (16) and ground balls (20). She also sits third with 27 draw controls.

Lynchburg is coming off of a hard-fought 9-8 setback against Meredith last Wednesday. Sydney Dumas and Neely Morris both recorded hat-tricks during the game, which saw the Hornets score three unanswered goals in the fourth quarter before running out of time to complete the comeback.

So far this season, Dumas leads Lynchburg with 26 points, while Alla Daniel slots second with 16. On the defensive side, Meredith Bornholdt has 10 takeaways and 26 ground balls, while MJ Tucker boasts a .400 save percentage and 11.35 goals-against-average.

In 18 previous meetings between the two programs, Christopher Newport holds a 12-6 edge in the series. Last year, Syd Guidi scored four goals during a 16-11 win at Lynchburg.

After Wednesday's game, the Captains will return to action on Saturday for another home bout against Rowan at noon.
