PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Christopher Newport sailing team captured a 12th-place finish at the Women's Atlantic Coast Tournament this weekend in a fleet of 17 teams. The Captains finished with 290 points including an impressive seventh-place showing from the B divison boat with 107 total points and a seventh place finish.

The B division boat was sailed by sophomore Grace Watlington with senior Ellie McFall in the boat as crew. They fell just 13 points shy of a top-five finish in B division and finished in the top ten eight times in 14 total races. The pair captured a couple of second-place efforts and one third-place showing.

In the A division races, the Captains had three top-ten finishes and wrapped up the weekend with 183 total points. Laura Smith sailed with Grace Keene for the first two rotations before Summer Duba jumped into the boat for the last ten races.

As a team, CNU finished just two points shy of Florida State for 11th place and edged out Wisconsin by two points for 12th. The Captains surged past the Badgers in the second race and never relinquished their lead in the close battle.
