CNU Women's Tennis Concludes Play at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- The Christopher Newport women's tennis team wrapped up play at the 2022 ITA Southeast Regional Championships this weekend after a long day of action on Saturday afternoon.

The Captains saw Logan Glen and Eva Taylor advance to the championship match of the Blue A Draw to highlight doubles action. After an 8-4 win over their opponents from Washington and Lee on Friday, Glen and Taylor added an 8-7 (5) win over Amelia Squires and Presley Daggett (Franklin and Marshall) on Saturday. The duo then fell to Johns Hopkins' tandem Imani Ghosh and Zoe Hsieh, 8-2, in the championship match. 

Top-seeded Raine Weis and Tessa Trate advanced to the quarterfinals with back-to-back wins in the Round of 32 and Round of 16. The Captains' top tandem won 8-3 over Simran Bedi and Anika Joshi (Carnegie Mellon) before handing Sofia Andrade and Ana Patino (Sweet Briar) an 8-3 loss. In Saturday's quarterfinal, Trate and Weis faced Margaret Carlton and Lauren Long from Washington and Lee and narrowly lost, 8-6. 

Rounding out the doubles action, Kiersten Chang and Kendra Womack earned an 8-2 win in consolation play over Mary Cristina Diaz-Nazario and Eva Kading from Washington College (Md.). 

In singles action, Tessa Trate picked up a win in consolation play against Ursinus veteran Alessandra Armour, 8-2. She then took on Carnegie Mellon's Zoe Angell in a hard-fought back-and-forth bout that saw the CNU junior suffer an 8-7 (4) setback. Logan Glen and Megan Bauer each won in consolations as well, downing Isabella Sorhegui (Washington College) and Alejandra Garcia (Averett), respectively. 

The Captains will return to action on October 29-30 as they travel to The Mount Duals in Maryland while also hosting the CNU Invite.
