Kingsmill Cup
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- The Christopher Newport sailing team competed in a pair of regattas this weekend, finishing fifth at the Chesapeake Invitational at Navy and also fifth at the Kingsmill Cup.
Both events encountered delays including substantial problems getting races finished at the Kingsmill Cup. The regatta only featured ten total races with six in A division and four in B division. The Captains won three of the ten, including a pair from the A division sailors.

Aston Atherton with senior
Shelby Svilich in the A division boat and the pair sailed to a third-place effort with 24 total points. In B division,
Gail Schneider and
Sebastian Beavers finished with 17 points and a fifth-place showing.
The other group sailed against four teams at the Chesapeake Invitational with three divisions of sailing. The Captains finished with 503 points after 13 races were completed in all three. The highlight of the weekend came in the eighth race of A division sailing when
Brian Fox and
Carson Rozell crossed the finish line first. The duo wrapped up the weekend with 143 points.
In B division,
David Grace and
Ellie McFall recorded 194 points and the C division tandem of Joshua Bendura and
Laura Smith finished with 166 points. Bendura and Smith had three top-ten finishes including a third-place showing in the third race of the weekend.
Christopher Newport will return to action next weekend as they host the Webb/Woollum Regatta on September 24-25.
