NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Christopher Newport men's tennis team continued play at a pair of season-opening tournaments on Saturday as they saw action at the CNU Fall Invite and the Marlin Fall Invite. Rookie Aden Bashir picked up a pair of wins in doubles action and added a singles victory in his long individual match of the day to cap a three-win performance on the day. 

Across the water, the Captains sent four players to take on opponents from Methodist University and picked up one doubles and three singles victories. At home, CNU swept three doubles bouts while picking up four more wins in singles action. 

Bashir opened the day with an 8-2 win in doubles play with partner Peter Karanski. He also picked up a straight set win over Methodist's Andrew Wood (6-2, 6-0) before making the trek back to Newport News for an appearance with Vincent Truong in pairs play. The rookie tandem captured an 8-2 win over Chowan's Santino Sormani and Alvaro Juscamaita. Truong also finished off a strong day with a win over Chowan's Nikola Cvetanovic in singles, 6-4, 6-2. 

Karanski, Alex Seretis, and Ryan Monroe each were perfect on the day by winning one match in doubles and one in singles play. In addition to his victory with Bashir, Karanski handled Will Trocchi (6-2, 6-4); Seretis paired with Ashton Legum for an 8-5 win over Nikola Cvetanovic and Hesley Masara before also completing a 6-1, 6-1 win over Alvaro Juscamaita; and Monroe earned an 8-4 doubles win over Aser Shaaban and Michael Correa with Ahun Vodela before a 6-3, 6-3 victory against Shaaban in singles. 

Rounding out the wins for CNU was a singles victory for Dawson Driscoll over Wills Belser (6-1, 6-4) and a Tyler Hyun win over Correa (6-4, 6-1). 

Both the Marlin Fall Invite and CNU Fall Invite will wrap up play on Sunday.
