NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Classes started Monday, and with the opening game of the 2022 football season just 11 days away, the Captains of Christopher Newport continue their pre-season workouts. The New Jersey Athletic Conference released its annual pre-season poll of coaches on Tuesday, and the Captains are picked to finish fifth in the seven-team conference.
Paul Crowley officially begins his first season leading the Captains on Saturday, September 3, when Christopher Newport travels to Lexington, Va., to take on the Generals of Washington and Lee University. Kickoff time is set for 6:00 p.m.
The Captains are coming off a 5-5 final record last year. Salisbury is tabbed to repeat as NJAC Champions in the poll, followed by Rowan, Kean, and Montclair State. The College of New Jersey and William Paterson round out the pre-season ranking of teams.
Christopher Newport will play six home games this season, with the first coming on Saturday, September 10, as the Captains host Averett University. Kickoff time at TowneBank Stadium is slated for 7:00 p.m. The 2022 season will be the 22nd since the inception of the Christopher Newport football program in 2001.
