GENEVA, Ohio -- Wrapping up a two-day gauntlet, Alyssa Roach finished 16th in the nation in the heptathlon after polishing off a strong performance at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday afternoon at the SPIRE Institute.

During the competition, she compiled a score of 4,355. That marked the second-best performance of her career. Meanwhile, her 16th-place finish equaled the third-best showing by a Captain in the heptathlon at the NCAA Championships, trailing only Briana Sutton's 10th-place performance in 2017 and Jennifer Westerholm's 15th-place showcase in 2015.

Kicking off Friday's action, Roach landed a 5.06-meter leap in the long jump. Shortly thereafter, she came back with a 21.13-meter toss in the javelin, which marked the third-best throw of her career.

Capping off the action in the 800, she completed the race in 2:30.62. That just missed her PR, falling only four-tenths of a second off her previous best in the outdoor competition.

Friday's work wrapped up a solid two-day stretch for the junior standout. During the first half of the competition, she registered a PR in the shot put (9.00 meters) and posted the school's fastest raw clocking in the 100-hurdles since 2000 when she crossed the line in 14.41.

Rounding out her performance, Roach also completed the 200 in 26.09 and cleared 1.49 meters in the high jump on Thursday.

Her appearance at the Outdoor Championships punctuated an incredible year for the Yorktown, Virginia native. During the 2021-22 campaign, Roach won five individual league championships and was celebrated as the USTFCCCA South Region Indoor Field Athlete of the Year. She also placed 12th in the pentathlon at the NCAA Indoor Championships in March.

In her career, Roach is a three-time national qualifier. Along with her performance in the pentathlon and heptathlon as a junior, she also came in 17th in the 100-hurdles during last year's outdoor meet.
