HOUSTON, Texas -- Despite matching her second round score with a 78 on day three, Christopher Newport junior
Lauren Sims (+23) missed the cut and concluded her appearance at the NCAA Division III National Championships on Thursday afternoon. Punctuating a stellar junior season with just the third-ever NCAA appearance for a Captain, Sims finished tied for 68th after 54 holes of action.
The junior from Front Royal, Va. added two more birdies in the third round while also sinking eight par putts. After finishing up three days of action, Sims recorded 22 pars and six birdies to post par or better in 28 of her 54 holes played.
Sims tied Liana Brown (George Fox) with a 23-over 238 (83-78-78). The individual leader after three rounds was Ellen Dong (Emory) with a one-under 215.
This season, Sims has set several records for the Captains including the best 54-hole tournament finish in the first five seasons of women's golf at Christopher Newport. She notched a pair of rounds under par, becoming the first player in program history with multiple under par rounds in her career.
Sims is the third NCAA qualifier in program history, joining
Erica Whitehouse (2019) and
Shreya Ganta (2021, 2022).
