NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport University hosts three schools this weekend as the 2022 NCAA Division III Softball Tournament gets underway. The Captains, the top-ranked team in the country for the last eight weeks, are scheduled to play in the late game Friday at 4:30 p.m., taking on the Wilson College Phoenix at Captains Park. Messiah College and Hunter College are slated to open the four-team, double elimination regional at 2:00 p.m.

Christopher Newport is 37-1 and riding a 14-game winning streak.
Keith Parr's squad wrapped up the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Tournament title last Friday by beating Salisbury University for the second straight day. The Captains are 21-0 at home this season.
Wilson College, located in Chambersburg, Pa., has a record of 23-11-1, and the Phoenix captured the Colonial States Athletic Conference automatic bid by defeating Rosemont College. This marks the second appearance for the Phoenix in the NCAA's and the first since 2019.This will be the first meeting ever for the Captains and Phoenix.
Messiah is located in Grantham, Pa., and the Falcons are Champions of the MAC Commonwealth Conference. CNU is 4-5 all-time vs. Messiah. Hunter College is located in New York City and the Hawks won the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) title. The Captains won the only meeting ever with the Hawks.
Christopher Newport is making its 15th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament, and the 19th all-time. The Captains were knocked out of the NCAA Tournament last year after dropping games to Emmanuel College and Texas Lutheran University in a regional in Seguin, Texas.
Tickets will be available for $10 for each day of action, and will be available one hour before the start of the day's competition at Captains Park. CNU students with current ID will be admitted free.
