Lauren Sims (+11) finished out her first round of action at the 2022 NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championships, battling high temperatures in the late Texas afternoon on Tuesday.
Taking on the Bay Oaks Country Club in one of the latest tee times of the first round, Sims played during the hottest part of the day and fired a first-round 83 for the Captains. She notched seven pars and one birdie in the round and currently sits in a tie for 89th just 14 strokes back of the leader Annie Mascot (WashU).Â
Sims will have the benefit of a morning tee time on Wednesday as she takes on the championship course starting at 9:20 a.m. She had the best score in her group on Tuesday, playing with Karen Alvarez (+12) and Emma Thorman (+19). She had the third-best score out of the six individual qualifiers.Â
The Captains' junior put together an impressive run in the middle of her round, firing a one-under score through seven holes between 5-11. The birdie came on the 461-yard Par 5 12th hole where she was one of only seven players to birdie the hole in the 151-player field.Â
