NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport University remains the top team in the country in Division III softball, and the Captains host the Pacers of William Peace University Thursday afternoon at Captains Park. The doubleheader has been moved up to a 2:00 p.m. start.

HERE. The Captains and Pacers have met 38 times in the all-time series, and the Captains have won 34 of the previous 38.
Keith Parr's squad is 27-1 and 15-0 at home this season. The Captains are coming off a sweep over Meredith College last Sunday, winning by scores of 11-3 and 9-0. William Peace hosted Meredith on Tuesday, and split a pair with the Avenging Angels in Raleigh, N.C. WPU took the opener, 2-1, but fell in the nightcap, 8-7. The Pacers are now 23-8 entering Thursday's action.
Christopher Newport continues to top the country in numerous statistical categories. The Captains lead the nation in:
Batting Average (.404), Total Runs (282), Runs per game (10.1), Home Runs per game (1.86), Slugging Percentage (.703), On Base Percentage (.472), Win-Loss Percentage (.964), and Shutouts (Tied for 1st with 15).
Individually, senior
Kaitlyn Hasty continues to top the country in home runs (15), runs batted in (49), total bases (89), and slugging percentage (1.127). The two-time All-American has set a new school career mark for home runs, and her next will be her 50th all-time.
Freshman pitcher
Kate Alger is 12-0 so far this season, and is currently 7th in the nation in earned run average (0.66).
