Keith Parr's squad is coming off a single victory at Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday, 6-1. CNU's scheduled second game with the third-ranked Marlins was rained out in Virginia Beach. The victory extended the Captains longest winning streak in program history as well as best start ever.
Freshman pitcher
Kate Alger upped her record to 8-0 by getting the victory over the Marlins on Wednesday. Alger threw all seven innings, allowing just one run in the seventh as the Marlins avoided the shutout. Senior catcher
Bailey Roberts supplied all the runs Alger would end up needing by hitting a two-run home run in the top of the first inning.
The Captains lead the nation in home runs (37), home runs per game (1.68), slugging percentage (.680), and total runs scored (215). CNU is second in the country in hits (234), and fourth in the nation in batting average (.400), on-base percentage (.437), and team earned run average (1.08).

The Cougars of Averett have a record of 8-6 heading into Sunday's doubleheader in Danville. AU split a doubleheader on Saturday with North Carolina Wesleyan. The schools met regularly when they were both members of the Dixie and later USA South Athletic Conference. Averett is now in its final year in the USA South, and will move into the Old Dominion Athletic Conference next year.
Following Sunday's action, the Captains will begin preparing for another road twin bill next Thursday at Bridgewater College. CNU returns home to host Greensboro College next Sunday, April 3rd, at Captains Park.
