NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport first baseman
Kaitlyn Hasty was named the Division III Louisville Slugger Player of the Week on Tuesday by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). Hasty, a senior from Chesapeake, hit .700 for the week with two doubles, three walks, four home runs and 11 runs batted in. Hasty's home run on Monday vs. Juniata was the 43rd of her career, pulling her even with Jessie Atkinson for CNU's all-time lead in the home run category.
Hasty, from Western Branch High School, was honored Monday as the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week, and follows senior outfielder
Sarah Proctor, who was chosen for the same honors last week. Hasty is now hitting .561 for the season with nine home runs and 27 runs batted in. Her slugging percentage is 1.317 and on base percentage .623
The Captains, 15-0 to start the season, moved up to fourth in the new national poll released by the NFCA on Tuesday. CNU was ranked 19th in the pre-season, and started the season in the ninth position last week in the initial poll. Christopher Newport will host the University of Lynchburg on Wednesday at Captains Park. The doubleheader is set for 2:00 p.m. Lynchburg is 9-5 to start the season, and the Hornets have won their last three games.
