The Christopher Newport volleyball program finished the year ranked No. 22 in the final American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III Top 25. The Captains rank in the year-end poll for the eighth time in program history and the first time since 2017. They also achieved the highest year end rank since 2015.
In her 20th year at the helm, head coach
Lindsay Birch led CNU to their 15th straight NCAA tournament appearance. The Captains posted a 23-14 overall record and defended the Freeman Center with an impressive 14-4 home record, all despite facing the nation's fourth-toughest schedule.
The Captains rounded into form and closed the regular season on a seven match winning streak. CNU won four straight home matches against Lynchburg, Eastern Mennonite, Messiah, and Randolph-Macon. After toppling St. Mary's (Md.) on the road, the Captains returned home to win both senior day matches against York and Averett.
Christopher Newport advanced to the NCAA Regional Final for just the sixth time in school history and the first time since 2014. The Captains knocked off SUNY Morrisville in four sets before sweeping #24 Ithaca. CNU fell in the final to eventual national champion Juniata.Â

Mackenzie Wright was named a Third Team AVCA All-American while
Sammy Carroll was named an honorable mention as well. It was the fourth honor for both Wright and Carroll, who were also named to the Coast-to-Coast Conference All-Conference team, the AVCA All-Regional team, and the NCAA All-Regional Tournament team.
