WINCHESTER, Va. -- The Christopher Newport volleyball team is closing out its regular season road games with three in a row starting with a pair away from home this weekend. The Captains will travel to Shenandoah University (10-6) on Friday evening at 5:00 p.m. before heading to Washington and Lee University (15-2) for a 1:00 p.m. first serve in Lexington.Â
Christopher Newport is 13-6 overall heading into the weekend with 14 of the 19 matches being played away from home. That trend continues this weekend with two more on the road before closing out the schedule as the visiting team next week at Salisbury. CNU will then finish the regular season with six straight at home starting on October 24.Â
This weekend, the Captains face a pair of familiar foes from the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. First, on Friday, CNU will look to extend a 35-match winning streak against Shenandoah in the 51st all-time meeting between the two programs. The Captains are 41-9 all-time against the Hornets as long-time conference rivals in the USA South Athletic Conference when the bulk of the active 35-match win streak was built. CNU and Shenandoah have only faced off twice since the Hornets left the league following the 2011 season and it will be the first trip to Winchester for CNU since that year.Â
Following the Friday night matchup, the Captains will then travel to Washington and Lee to face the Generals, who are receiving votes in this week's AVCA Top 25. CNU is 25-17 all-time against W&L including an impressive 11-5 record on the road. Last season, the Captains captured both matches in a home-and-home series against the Generals.Â
Live stats and a live video webcast ($) will be available with links on CNUsports.com.Â

Rookie
Jasmine Williams leads the team with 149 kills (2.53 per set) and is hitting at a record-breaking pace with a .336 mark through 19 matches. The highest hitting percentage by a freshman in program history was Hall of Famer Brittany Collins' mark of .345 in 2004 and no CNU rookie has hit higher than .314 for a single season before or since. Sophomore setter
Fielding Croft is closing in on 1,500 career assists with 400 (6.25 per set) while classmate
Lauren Hobbs has caught fire with 236 (4.29 per set).Â
Shenandoah has been on a run with wins in eight of the last nine matches. Hannah Hylton and Ashlynn Spence lead the way with 188 kills (3.70 per set) and 157 kills (2.62 per set), respectively. Washington and Lee will counter the Captains with one of the best defensive units in the nation. All-American Vivi Vasquez ranks fifth nationally while leading the Division III leading team defense in digs per set (21.2). Senior Grace Mitchener, also an All-American, ranks in the top-25 in attacks per set and leads the team with a .269 hitting percentage.Â
