NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Playing at home for the first time in over a month, the Christopher Newport volleyball team will return to the Freeman Center on Friday night as the Captains (12-6) host Marymount University at 6:00 p.m.
The Captains have won seven of the last nine matches and are coming off a mid-week matchup at No. 23 Batten University on Wednesday. CNU has played 14 matches away from home since a season-opening weekend at home and has posted an impressive 5-2 record on the road and 5-2 record in neutral site matchups in that span.Â
Against Marymount, a former conference rival in the Capital Athletic Conference, the Captains are 21-13 all-time. CNU has won four of the last five matches against the Saints dating back to the 2021 season.Â

The Captains rank 19th in Division III this season in blocks per set (2.21) and have piled up 135.0 team blocks to rank in the top-20 nationally. Leading the way have been
Alli Pratt (45) and
Jasmine Williams (44) while
Carley Coghill (28) and
Simara Alexander (25) have also been imposing at the net. CNU is well-rounded on both sides of the ball this season with six different players recording 88 kills or more this season. Williams is leading the attack with a .347 hitting percentage that ranks in the top-50 nationally this season.Â
Marymount has eclipsed 1,000 digs already this seaosn and ranks 31st nationally in total digs and 22nd nationally in digs per set. The Saints defense is led by Renae Rohrer with 5.39 digs per set and just over 300 digs through the first 16 matches. Marymount is 9-7 so far and riding a four-match winning streak with 3-0 wins at Gallaudet, versus Eastern, and at Catholic in that run.Â
After playing in front of the home crowd for the first time since September 5, the Captains will get right back onto the road with three straight away from Freeman. CNU will next travel to Shenandoah University on October 16 to kickoff the road swing before also facing Washington and Lee (Oct 17) and Salisbury (Oct 21).Â
