Frey Eclipses 1000 Digs in Loss to Salisbury

Christopher Newport's Rebecca Frey surpassed 1000 career digs on Thursday night, but the Captains fell in four sets to Salisbury

First Set (Salisbury 25-19)

Two kills and a service ace from Megan James highlighted a fast start for CNU. But after leading 14-7, Salisbury scored 11 of the following 10 points to flip the script and give the Sea Gulls a three point lead. With the momentum in their favor, Salisbury was able to hold off CNU and take the first set.

Second Set (Salisbury 27-25)

Two aces from Rebecca Frey capped off a 14-5 start to the second set for the Captains. Later, CNU took three points in a row to take a 23-17 lead, but Salisbury went on a seven point run and forced a set point at 24-23. A bad set and a kill from Maddie Carter put CNU up 25-24, but the Sea Gulls rallied to take the final three points of the second set.

Third Set (Captains 25-22)

Salisbury came back from a slow start in the third set and eventually took a 20-18 lead. This time it was the Captains with the late rally, as two kills from Mackenzie Wright were part of a 5-0 run before another kill from Wright set up a set point. Alyssa Dozier's kill claimed the third set for Christopher Newport.

Fourth Set (Salisbury 25-23)

CNU moved ahead 22-20 with kills from Dozier and Carter, but Salisbury won three points in a row to retake the lead. Lainie Putt's kill tied the set, but Salisbury took the next two points, the fourth set, and the match.
