Christopher Newport held Lynchburg to a .056 hitting percentage on Wednesday night as the Captains topped the Hornets 3-0 at the Freeman Center.
First Set (Captains 25-18)
CNU closed a close set strong with a 7-1 run. Leading by just two,
Sammy Carroll,
Alyssa Dozier, and
Kyla McIntyre helped the Captains put together the run that closed out the first set with 18 CNU kills.
Second Set (Captains 25-18)
Maddie Carter contributed five of her team-leading 11 kills in the second set. After taking an early 4-3 lead, the Captains led the rest of the way and hit .224, their best hitting percentage of the match. Dozier, Carter, and
Lainie Putt contributed kills to claim the second set for the Captains
Third Set (Captains 25-19)
The Captains led wire-to-wire in the third set with two aces from
Alyssa Dozier taking part in a 6-1 start for CNU. Three kills from
Kyla McIntyre were followed by
Abigail Draper's match-clinching kill that capped off the sweep for Christopher Newport.
