Christopher Newport stifled the Eastern Mennonite attack in a three set win on Friday night. The Captains held EMU to just 27 kills and a .097 hitting percentage in their second straight 3-0 win.
First Set (Captains 25-16)
Ten straight CNU points were a big factor in a nine point set victory.
Kyla McIntyre contributed three kills as part of the ten point swing that put CNU up 16-9. A kill from
Maddie Carter and an ace from
Anna Dean helped the Captains wrap up the first set.
Second Set (Captains 25-16)
Maddie Carter contributed five of her 10 kills in the second set. Her third kill was followed by two kills from
Mackenzie Wright and another ace from Dean to put the Captains up 15-9. Another kill from Wright was bookended by Carter's fourth and fifth kills, which earned CNU the second set.
Third Set (Captains 25-20)
Six kills from
Mackenzie Wright helped Christopher Newport take the third set. Three of her kills helped the Captains score seven straight points and take the lead. It was the closest set of the night, but Wright's sixth kill and
Anna Dean's third service ace clinched the match for CNU.
