NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Sophomore goalkeeper Jaya Daniel continued the impressive start to her career this week with a pair of shutouts to help Christopher Newport improve to 11-0-1 on the season. Following the two victories, Daniel was named the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season. 

CNU has now collected three of the possible six Defensive Player of the Week awards while also earning two offensive certificates earlier this season. Jill McDonald earned the recognition in week one while Daniel first was named Defensive Player of the Week on September 26. 

This week, the Captains secured a pair of 1-0 victories on the road with wins at Lynchburg and Gettysburg. First up, in a defensive battle against the rival Hornets, Daniel made three saves and held Lynchburg scoreless against the Captains for only the second time since 2006. She then picked up another three stops against Gettysburg, including a game-saving stop on a second-half penalty kick with the score knotted at 0-0. She is now 3-for-3 against PK's this season. 

Daniel lowered her season goals-against average to a career-best 0.56 and ranks in the top-50 nationally this season. She also ranks 45th in save percentage (.861) and is the league's leading goalkeeper in total shutouts with four. The sophomore netminder is the first Captain in program history to win her first 10 starts and improved to 11-0-0 including her record from 2021 as well. 

Christopher Newport will be back in action this Wednesday, October 12 as they travel to Salisbury University for a 4:00 p.m. kickoff against the Sea Gulls.
