NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- In an early season test at home the nationally-ranked Christopher Newport women's soccer team will host No. 7 Washington and Lee University (2-0-0) on Saturday at Noon. It is the first of two games this weekend as the Captains (2-0-1) will also entertain Stockton University (1-0-2) at Noon on Sunday.

Christopher Newport is 0-2-4 all-time against Washington and Lee with three straight draws over the last three years against the Generals. At No. 7 in the nation, the Generals represent the highest-ranked opponent in a regular season matchup at Captains Field since Christopher Newport defeated 6th-ranked Carnegie Mellon on September 9, 2016. In that win, CNU Athletics Hall of Famer Victoria Perry scored the game-winning goal after another Hall of Famer, Gabby Gillis, set up the second-half equalizer from Keiley McCarthy in the 61st minute.
The Captains are riding a 12-game unbeaten streak against nationally-ranked opponents at Captains Field, posting an impressive 11-0-1 record including two wins against top-ten foes. CNU is 9-0-1 in home games against ranked opponents since head coach
Jamie Gunderson took over in 2021 and have not lost a home game to a ranked opponent since falling to No. 20 Lynchburg, 2-1, on November 12, 2017.
The Generals will look to end that run while entering the weekend riding a 19-match unbeaten streak of their own. That spurt started last season against the Captains with a 1-1 draw on September 20, 2025 and continued through the NCAA Quarterfinals where the 2025 season ended in a penalty kick shootout loss to No. 5 Pomona-Pitzer. This season, they are 2-0-0 with a 7-0 win at Southern Virginia and a 3-1 win against William Smith. The team has scored 10 goals with twins Megan and Elizabeth Zimmerman combining for five goals and two assists so far this year.
Meanwhile, Christopher Newport is 2-0-1 with victories against Methodist University and Chapman University while earning a scoreless draw versus Hardin-Simmons. Rookies

Amy Sidaway has been a brick wall in goal, posting three straight shutouts. She hauled in Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors for the ninth time this week.
After the Saturday afternoon top-25 showdown, the Captains will turn around to face Stockton University, who is also unbeaten this season. The Ospreys are 1-0-2 headed into just the second-ever matchup against the Captains. CNU is 0-1-0 with a 2012 setback to Stockton serving as the only previous head-to-head bout.
This season, Stockton picked up a win against Immaculata to open the year before back-to-back ties against York (Pa.) and Drew. The Ospreys have allowed just three goals with senior Tori Vliet playing all 270 minutes in goal so far this season.
Following the weekend's action, the Captains will head away from home for the first time in 2026 with a trip to Atlanta, Georgia to face second-ranked Emory University and Oglethorpe University next weekend.
