NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The fourth-ranked Christopher Newport softball squad received two weekly honors on Monday from the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference. Senior Emily Weatherholtz was named the Pitcher of the Week, and junior Bailey Roberts was selected the Player of the Week by the conference office.

Weatherholtz posted a 2-0 record last week as the Captains were 3-1 in a pair of doubleheaders. She registered victories over Bridgewater at home Thursday and on the road at Lynchburg Friday. Both of her outings were complete-game triumphs, pitching 14 innings and allowing just ten hits and one earned run. She also struck out ten and walked six as the Captains improved to 17-7 on Friday. Weatherholtz, a product of Manassas, Va., is now 8-2 for the season in the circle for Christopher Newport.

Roberts posted seven hits in 13 at bats in four games last week for the Captains, and also drove in five runs. Roberts blasted a grand slam home run in a home victory vs. Bridgewater, and also recorded a 4-for-4 performance in a win at Lynchburg. Her slugging percentage for the week was .769 and on base percentage .571. Roberts, from Chesapeake, Va., now tops the squad in batting average with a .455 mark, and is tied for the team lead in hits with 25 through 24 games.

The Captains, 17-7 on the season, travel to Raleigh, N.C., on Tuesday for a doubleheader at William Peace University. The twin bill is set to begin at 2:30 p.m. The Captains and Pacers have already met for a doubleheader this year at Captains Park on March 3rd. Keith Parr's team won both games by scores of 4-2 and 11-8. William Peace is 6-13 currently heading into Tuesday's action.
