Christopher Newport Softball Concludes Regular Season With Wednesday Doubleheader at Bridgewater

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The regular season comes to a close Wednesday for Christopher Newport University, as the 14th-ranked Captains travel to play Bridgewater College. The non-conference softball doubleheader is set to start at 3:00 p.m.

Keith Parr's Captains are 24-10 overall and were 4-2 in the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference. Bridgewater is 11-11 so far this spring and the Eagles finished 8-8 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.

Video of the action Wednesday afternoon will be available by clicking HERE. Live stats will also be available HERE. No visiting spectators will be allowed entry to the softball facility due to CoVID restrictions.

Christopher Newport is coming off a doubleheader sweep last Saturday over Mary Washington at Captains Park. CNU took both games by 8-0 scores, and both lasted only five innings due to the eight-run mercy rule. Senior Emily Weatherholtz pitched a no-hitter in the opener, and was named the C2C's Pitcher of the Week this week.

The Captains hosted Bridgewater back on April 1st, and the teams split a twin bill at Captains Park. CNU won the opener, 7-0, but the Eagles bounced back to claim a 2-1 victory in the nightcap. Bridgewater played a doubleheader on Tuesday at Roanoke, and split with the Maroons to conclude the ODAC conference schedule.

Following Wednesday's action, the Captains will open play in the first-ever Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Tournament next week. Christopher Newport is set to open the tourney next Thursday, May 6th, in Waukesha, Wisconsin.
