NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Six members of the Christopher Newport University football squad received honors on Wednesday from the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). Senior kicker/punter
Ben Garbarini (Bedord, Va.) was the recipient of one of six major awards, selected the South Division Special Teams Player of the Year.
The post-season awards follow a brief two-game spring season for the Captains that saw them lose to Salisbury and Wesley. The NJAC was split into two divisions, North and South, with honors going out to student-athletes in both divisions.
Three members of the Captains offense received acclaim. Senior lineman
Nick Norman (Yorktown, Va.), junior lineman
Drew Knott (King George, Va.), and senor tight end
Brett McDonald (Clarke County, Va.) were named to the All-Conference squad.
From the defensive unit, senior linebacker
Sean Wilkinson (Vienna, Va.), and sophomore cornerback
Josh Uvodich (Williamsburg, Va.) were both selected for the post-season honor. Uvodich also received recognition for his efforts as a returner.
